Technology Integration
Digital Media
In spring 2021, Weisser Park upgraded its Digital Media Lab with 30, 21.5” iMac computers. The lab features a green-screen wall, a mobile iPad cart and a dedicated sound studio, allowing students to create digital music and media using industry-leading software like Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. The Digital Media Arts teacher provides instruction in video, audio and music production for all grade levels, collaborating with the instrumental music teacher and artists-in-residence. Students also use the lab for photography, Weisser Park News, yearbook projects and partnerships with local organizations during Fort Wayne’s annual FAME production.
Robotics & Coding
Weisser Park students build critical thinking and engineering skills through robotics and coding. All students learn coding with Code.org and Typing.com, while advanced learners progress to HTML, JavaScript and Python via CodeHS.
The STEAM resource teacher provides coding and design instruction in the STEAM lab. Students in grades 3-5 can join after-school robotics and coding classes through Encore Arts, exploring Scratch, Sphero, Dash & Dot, Codecademy and LEGO robotics. 4th and 5th graders can also apply for one of six VEX IQ Competition teams.
