Community Partnerships

Sweetwater, the leading music business in the Midwest, partners with Weisser Park STEAM Elementary on several initiatives. The company provides instruments to students and helps them choose the right one through individual meetings and guidance. Sweetwater musicians also collaborate with instrumental instructors to offer lessons before, during and after school. The company's largest contribution is the donation of a Mac Lab, equipped for students to write and compose their own music. In addition, Sweetwater gives Weisser Park students the opportunity to attend summer camps focused on music composition or creating rock bands.

Weisser Park has teamed up with Parkview Health to create Healthy Harvest, a program designed to promote healthy eating. It offers fresh fruits and vegetables, instructional support, and works closely with teachers to foster healthy habits. Each week, students, staff, Parkview nurses, FWCS dietitians and parents come together to explore various fruits and vegetables, prepare healthy recipes, taste new foods and participate in garden activities. 

The Department of Teacher Education at Purdue University Fort Wayne partners with Weisser Park STEAM Elementary through a lab school model with 15 preservice teachers and Professor Dr. Parnin. Meeting weekly, PFW and Weisser Park staff collaborate to enhance learning for all involved. PFW students gain hands-on experience teaching STEAM curriculum while Weisser Park staff engage in ongoing professional development. Their current focus is teaching students to use hydroponic and irrigation systems to support community gardens.

Weisser Park Elementary partners with Science Central to enhance STEAM learning. Board member David Plumb has helped bring hands-on activities to the school, enriching student engagement. Families participate in STEAM-focused family nights at Science Central and Weisser Park where volunteers set up interactive activities. Science Central collaborates with grade-level teams to develop Project-Based Learning Units that deepen learning for students and staff. They also provide professional development, instructional support and materials to strengthen STEAM education.

Weisser Park partners with Purdue University Fort Wayne to enhance learning in the outdoor space. PFW Master Gardeners work with the STEAM resource teacher to integrate student interest in gardening and food sustainability into transdisciplinary units of study.

Starbase Indiana Fort Wayne partners with Weisser Park Elementary to deliver STEAM instruction to all 5th grade students, ensuring full participation in hands-on learning. Instructors also collaborate with 1st grade teachers to design and teach Project-Based Learning lessons at Weisser Park.

Junior Achievement partners with Weisser Park Elementary to provide students with valuable lessons and insights into a wide range of STEAM careers. This program is designed to help students explore different fields within science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Every teacher and student at Weisser Park participates in this enriching learning experience, gaining a deeper understanding of the career opportunities within STEAM fields.

Project Ballet offers daily dance instruction to all students at Weisser Park STEAM Elementary, providing every student with the chance to explore dance. Instructors work closely with Arts Team teachers to integrate dance into grade-level performances, enriching students’ learning and fostering creativity, coordination and confidence.
