About Us
By integrating arts, technology and real-world learning experiences, Whitney Young & Weisser Park build a strong foundation for student success. This approach inspires students to explore diverse interests and career pathways, including STEAM-related fields, while nurturing creativity, curiosity and lifelong learning.
One School, Two Campuses
Whitney Young and Weisser Park operate as one unified school community across two campuses. Though physically separate, the campuses function as a single learning system connected by a shared vision, leadership, staff collaboration and student opportunities. Expectations, instructional practices, behavior supports and STEAM-focused programming are fully aligned.
Students, staff and families experience continuity from early childhood through elementary years, ensuring a seamless academic and social-emotional journey.
A Shared History & Reunited Future
The connection between Whitney Young and Weisser Park is deeply rooted in history. In the early 1980s, the schools originally functioned as one, serving students together before separating in the 1990s.
In 2025, the schools proudly reunite, honoring their shared past while building a stronger, more innovative future. This reunification allows both campuses to leverage their unique strengths while expanding opportunities for students across grade levels.
STEAM-Focused Learning
In 2018, Weisser Park partnered with Discovery Education to enhance its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum. This collaboration modernized instruction by integrating technology and engineering while maintaining a strong foundation in the arts.
Over three years, staff, students and families worked together to implement project-based learning, aligning with Fort Wayne Community Schools’ Deep Learning initiative. Students develop the 6 Cs—character, citizenship, communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity while mastering Indiana Academic Standards.
Community Partnerships
Community partnerships play a vital role in enriching student learning. Weisser Park collaborates with artists-in-residence and organizations such as:
-
Purdue University Fort Wayne
-
Junior Achievement
-
Fort Wayne Dance Collective
-
Science Central
A STEAM Advisory Board, made up of parents, teachers and community members, provides guidance and support to ensure programming remains innovative and student-centered.
Feeder Pattern: Connection, Collaboration, Community
Weisser Park is a Magnet School. To attend this school, students must apply through the School Choice Lottery. The process is different from the neighborhood schools within FWCS, which assign students based on their residential addresses. Once a student is admitted to Weisser Park, they have a guaranteed graduation pathway continuing on to Memorial Park STEAM Middle School, all the way up to high school graduation at South Side High School.
